Wimaphil Joins 26th International Aids Candlelight Ceremony

 
  In response to an invitation from the Philippine National Aids Council (PNAC) and consistent with the advocacies of Women In Maritime Philippines (WIMAPHIL), 19 members of the WIMAPHIL Luzon chapter joined a gathering of representatives from various sectors at the Quezon Memorial Circle last May 15, 2009, to commemorate the 26th International AIDS Candlelight Ceremony. This year’s theme was “Together, We are the Solution.” The Candlelight Memorial began in 1983 in the United States, in the city of San Francisco.  
   
Quezon City Mayor Sonny Belmonte gave the welcome remarks. Various representatives from the Positive Community & other service providers shared their commitment to and support for this event. A declaration of solidarity was read to the group advocating HIV/AIDS awareness and intervention. Participants offered silent prayers to remember and honor those who have passed on due to HIV and AIDS.

The memorial ceremony ended with the symbolic lighting of candles.
