PTC Celebrates 30 years with Gratitude to its Seafarers
On October 28, 2009, Philippine Transmarine Carriers (PTC) hosted a celebration for its seafarers in commemoration of the company’s 30th year anniversary, and in gratitude for their many years of loyalty and service to the company.
Held at the Forum 3 Tent in front of PICC, the event was attended by the PTC Management, Crewing Department and over 500 PTC seafarers who were a representation of the company’s wide range of over 80 Principals worldwide.
In his welcome remarks, PTC’s Chairman and CEO, Mr. Carlos C. Salinas recalled PTC’s first
(L-R) Greg Ortile, Christina Manzano, Louie de Guzman of Smart Communications, Carlos Salinas, Meldin Al Roy, Ronald Enrile and Gerardo Borromeo
deployment of 72 seafarers in 1979. Today, this number has grown to an annual deployment of 30,000. Mr. Salinas thanked the seafarers for the “life that PTC has lived in the last three decades and for bringing pride, honor and dignity to the company and to our country.”
18 seafarers were awarded the PTC 2009 Maritime Professional Excellence Award in recognition of Heroic Acts in the performance of their duties at sea and in keeping with the tradition of global maritime professionals.
At the core of PTC’s philosophy is its strong sense of corporate social responsibility. PTC aims to address not only the seafarers’ need for stable careers, but for sustainable livelihood, as well. In this connection, the event was graced by the presence of Mr. Jose Concepcion III, Founding Trustee of Go Negosyo, to share with the seafarers through an interview by PTC’s Vice-Chairman and Executive Managing Director, Ms. Carla S. Limcaoco, various ideas on entrepreneurship and livelihood opportunities.
Also launched during the event was the PTC Special Seafarers’ SIM, a joint project between PTC and SMART Communications. The PTC SIM provides features such as powerful on-demand information, and lower call, text and e-load rates. This project was embarked on to ensure close communication among PTC, the seafarers, and their families, at reasonable rates.
In his closing remarks, PTC’s Vice-Chairman and Chief Operating Officer, Mr. Gerardo A. Borromeo, gave an inspiring summary of PTC‘s Seven C’s which has served as the company’s tools for success and will continue to ensure a solid future for all PTC seafarers: PTC’s Chronicle of Achievements, Culture of Excellence, Code of Integrity, Commitment, Customer Focus, Concern for People and Corporate Sustainability. With these Seven C’s, PTC will continue in the years ahead, to inspire lives, build futures and move the world.
The event ended with a surprise guest appearance by Ms. Geneva Cruz who rendered a few song numbers for the seafarers.
