On March 25, 2025, the PTC Talent Acquisition Group (TAG) brought the PTC Masterclass Series to the Philippine Merchant Marine School (PMMS) in Las Pinas City, equipping over 200 graduating BSMT and BSME cadets with essential industry knowledge. This event served as an important platform for aspiring maritime professionals to gain insights from seasoned experts, preparing them for the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.
The cadets eagerly engaged in a series of thought-provoking discussions led by key figures from PTC. Capt. Ronald SJ Enrile, PTC Senior Adviser for the Shipping Cluster and Head of PTC-TAG, provided a deep dive into the Magna Carta for Seafarers Law, which outlines seafarers’ rights. He also addressed potential challenges they might face while at sea, ensuring cadets understand both their privileges and responsibilities.
Engr. Marianne Camille Pastolero, PHILCAMSAT Education and Training Officer, tackled the significance of social media awareness onboard ships. She emphasized the importance of maintaining professionalism online while balancing connectivity, privacy, and security. Her practical tips encouraged cadets to foster a culture of responsible digital citizenship in their maritime careers.
The last speaker, Ian Balete, PTC HR Manager, shed light on the mental resilience needed in the maritime profession. He shared strategies for managing stress, maintaining well-being, and building strong support networks both onshore and at sea. By promoting open communication and camaraderie, he highlighted ways to create a healthier work environment in the demanding life at sea.
The PTC Masterclass Series is a flagship of PTC-TAG dedicated to strengthening the company's talent pipeline and reinforcing its commitment to the next generation of maritime professionals. By bridging the gap between classroom learning and real-world challenges, PTC continues to shape competent, resilient, and well-rounded seafarers, ready to take on the global stage.
